TNFD Tools Catalogue — Africa Mining Filter

What this catalogue does. Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) emerged from 2023 and is increasingly embedded in DFI environmental and social due diligence. This catalogue surfaces the five TNFD-aligned tools most applicable to African mining decision contexts, with Tier-1 / Tier-2 / Tier-3 applicability classification per asset type and primary-source authority each tool publishes. Per Methodology §10.4 TNFD substrate.

WWF Water Risk Filter TIER 1

Geographic + sector water-risk assessment across physical / regulatory / reputational dimensions. Africa-relevant for assets in water-stressed basins (Limpopo, Orange, Cunene, Cuvelai-Etosha) and high-irrigation-demand catchments (Senegal, Niger, Volta).

Globally consistent biodiversity intelligence: IUCN protected areas, Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs), Important Bird Areas (IBAs), species ranges. Africa mineral provinces overlap multiple high-biodiversity zones (Congo Basin, Eastern Arc, Cape Floristic Region, Albertine Rift).

Natural capital dependency + impact framework for financial sectors. Maps economic activities to ecosystem service dependencies (water provision, climate regulation, pollination, soil quality) and impact drivers (water use, GHG, terrestrial ecosystem use, soil pollutants).

High-resolution water-risk atlas: baseline water stress, water depletion, groundwater table decline, drought / flood / coastal flood risk projections. Africa-mining-applicable for water-stressed Cu-Co operating context (Lufilian Arc), water-budget-tight Au operations (Birimian), and infrastructure-corridor route planning.
