The Checking Desk

Send us any published mining document — a results release, a presentation, a project update. We tell you which of its figures match the company's earlier filings, which contradict them, and which appear in no filing we hold. Every answer names the documents and dates it was checked against.

What we check — and what we never do. We check whether the record agrees with itself: this document against the company's own earlier published documents. We never rule on whether a claim is true, reasonable, or likely to be met. Matches, contradictions, and gaps — with sources — nothing more.

How it works

Public documents only. Anything the company has published or filed. We do not accept confidential material, and we do not check it.
Every answer is sourced. Each figure comes back as: matches (with the earlier filing and date), contradicts (both figures shown, both sourced), or appears in no filing we hold — under the Quality Standard.
Checked by a person. Every answer is reviewed and sent by the editor. Software helps with the comparison; no answer goes out without the editor reading it.
We never say who asked. Submissions are confidential in one direction only: the documents are public; the person who asked is not disclosed — not to the company, not to anyone — except where the law requires it.
DRC, Rwanda and the Great Lakes. Documents about companies or assets there are taken into the register as data only; the editor gives no individual answer on them (editorial recusal).

Response times

Working press: answered within 48 hours, committed, until Edition 1 of the Guidance Scorecard is published; the rule after that is set then and stated here. Say which outlet you write for.

Everyone else: a queue, until Edition 1 of the Guidance Scorecard is published. The answer is that your document goes into scoring for the next edition of the guidance & claims register — checked with the same discipline, published on the record.
